A 57-year-old female presents to the clinic with complaints of pain and stiffness of the finger joints. Upon assessment, the nurse finds the patient has joint tenderness, finger joints that appear larger, a crackling sound in the joints, muscle wasting, and limited range of motion (ROM). Further tests are conducted and the patient is diagnosed with rheumatoid osteoarthritis (OA).

An inter-professional approach to OA care can entail self-management education with a nurse educator, psychosocial assessment and management of anxiety and depression with a psychiatric nurse, occupational and physical therapy with a physical therapist, dietary therapy with a dietician/ nutritionist, surgical interventions with surgical care nurses, and pharmacotherapy with pharmacists (Masterson et al., 2016).
